Editorial Policy

How Omnission maintains ranking integrity, handles affiliate relationships, and ensures the data you see is accurate and independent.

Our Mission

Omnission exists to help people make better laptop buying decisions through structured, objective data — not editorial opinion, sponsored content, or affiliate incentives.

We believe the best product recommendation engine is one that is transparent about exactly how it works, so users can evaluate rankings with full information rather than blind trust.

How Rankings Are Determined

All laptop rankings on Omnission are computed algorithmically from structured specification data using a publicly documented scoring engine. Rankings are never influenced by commercial relationships, advertiser payments, or any form of sponsored placement.

The scoring methodology — including all weights, formulas, and data inputs — is documented in full on our Methodology page and How Scoring Works page. There are no hidden adjustments.

Laptops are added to the database based on availability, relevance, and editorial judgment about what buyers in each category are actually considering. Addition to the database does not involve any payment or commercial arrangement.

Affiliate Disclosure

Omnission participates in the Amazon Associates Program. When you click a “Buy on Amazon” link and make a qualifying purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Affiliate commission rates are identical across all products — there is no mechanism by which Amazon pays us more to rank one laptop above another, and we would not accept such an arrangement even if it existed.

Affiliate revenue is used to fund the ongoing development and maintenance of this site. It does not influence editorial decisions, scoring weights, or rankings.

FTC Disclosure: As an Amazon Associate, Omnission earns from qualifying purchases. Links marked with a “Buy on Amazon” button are affiliate links. Review scores shown on product cards are aggregated from third-party publications and are not produced by Omnission.

Review Score Attribution

Review scores displayed on laptop cards (e.g., “Tom’s Guide: 94”) are the ratings published by those third-party publications. Omnission normalizes these to a 0–100 scale for consistent display but does not alter or fabricate them.

These external review scores are displayed for reference only. They are not currently used in computing the composite score — the composite is derived entirely from structured spec data and benchmark indexes.

Data Accuracy

Specification data is sourced from official manufacturer spec sheets and verified against retail product listings. Where discrepancies exist between sources, we use the most conservative or most commonly cited figure.

Estimated battery life figures come from manufacturer claims or standardized test results from trusted publications. They represent typical use conditions, not worst-case or best-case scenarios.

Prices shown as live are fetched from Amazon in real time and cached at the Cloudflare edge for up to 30 minutes. MSRP is always displayed as a fallback when live pricing is unavailable. Omnission does not guarantee that prices are current at time of purchase — always verify the final price on the retailer’s site.

If you spot a factual error in any laptop’s specification data, please contact us. We correct errors promptly.

Scoring Independence

Dimension weights and scoring formulas are reviewed periodically — typically when a new product generation changes what “good” means in a category (e.g., when ARM-based laptops redefined battery life expectations). Weight changes are not made to favor any particular brand, platform, or product.

Omnission does not accept sample units, review devices, or sponsored content from manufacturers. All data is collected from public sources.
